Residents of the New Chauncey Neighborhood have created a Political Action Committee (PAC) called “Community Homeowners And University Neighbors Committee.” It is using the acronym CHAUNC-PAC (pronounced “Chaun-cee Pac”).

The mission of the PAC is to develop political means for improving quality of life by managing growth, encouraging and sustaining neighborhood diversity, and increasing economic viability.

According to 2000 Census figures, housing in the State of Indiana is 71.4% owner occupied*, in Tippecanoe County the owner occupied percentage is 55.9%, and in Lafayette the percentage is just a bit lower at 52.9%. However, in the City of West Lafayette housing is only 32.2% owner occupied.

 

 

*A housing unit is owner-occupied if the owner or co-owner lives in the unit, even if it is mortgaged or not fully paid for. The homeownership rate is computed by dividing the number of owner-occupied housing units by the number of occupied housing units or households.
